Before Williams Sound Corp. became a corporation, it started with a person - a person who was Motiva™ted to help others. Jerry Williams had come to learn about a fellow parishioner who had difficulty hearing the pastor’s sermon. Jerry, having some experience with electronic components and radio devices, assembled a simple transmitter and portable receiver out of parts lying around his workshop. When Jerry approached her after the service to see how the device worked, she started to cry. “That is the first time I heard the service in 3 years,” she said. And just like that, the idea of “Helping People Hear” began to take shape, and Jerry Williams’ “Williams Sound” would become a reality. On February 25th, 1976, Williams Sound made its first sale of a Personal PA®™ AM radio system to Faith Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. And the rest, as they say, is history. Williams Sound has since become a leading manufacturer and supplier of hearing assistance technology worldwide. They carry a diverse line of assistive listening devices such as the popular Pocketalker®™ Personal Amplifier, Teletalker™™ Amplified Telephone, and SoundPlus®™ TV listening systems. They are also bringing new technology into the Commercial Sound market place, offering large area infrared and FM systems with application preset controls, sophisticated audio processors and LCD displays to meet hearing assistance and language needs in courtrooms, churches, schools, and other facilities. What does the future have in store for Williams Sound? “We are proud of our history and are excited about the future,” says Jeanne Aamot, Director of Sales and Marketing. “Williams Sound has captured the vision of technology needed for innovative products in the 21st century. And we remain committed to offering products and service that enhance people’s lives.” As government accessibility requirements become standardized and consumer advocacy groups for the hard of hearing expand, Williams Sound is poised for success, because they continue to do what they know and love: Helping People Hear.
